Lao PDR Fisheries Delegation and Mekong Fisheries, the First Domestic Fisheries Company, Showcase at the Shenzhen International Fisheries Expo

Shenzhen, China – The Shenzhen International Fisheries Expo recently concluded at the Shenzhen Convention and Exhibition Center. At this grand event, a fisheries delegation led by Mr. Kaviphone Phouthavong, Director-General of the Department of Livestock and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Lao PDR, and Mr. Thatsaka Saphangthong, Director-General of Department of Planning and Cooperation，Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry , Lao PDR, joined hands with Mekong Fisheries, the first large-scale fisheries company in the country, to promote Sino-Lao fisheries cooperation and contribute to the upgrading and development of Lao PDR's fisheries industry.

Its abundant water system, particularly the Mekong River that runs through the north and south, is characterised by excellent water quality, rated Grade A by the United Nations and free from industrial pollution. This provides an ideal natural environment for the development of freshwater fisheries. In addition, Lao PDR's tropical and subtropical monsoon climate and stable warm temperatures create a high-quality ecological environment for fisheries production. The Lao PDR government attaches great importance to the development of fisheries. Through the formulation of a series of policies and support measures, it has not only promoted the breeding, protection, development and utilisation of fisheries to ensure food supply and safety, but also promoted the industrialisation of fisheries production, giving a strong impetus to rural economic development and farmers' income growth.

In the international exhibition area of Fisheries Expo, Mekong Fisheries, as the national fisheries representative company of Lao PDR, attracted the attention of many exhibitors and visitors with its unique presence. The company not only carefully displayed its main products of the Basa fish series, but also brought the traditional Lao PDR flavoured foods - coffee and tea - to the public on the spot. This was not only a product display, but also a cultural exchange, allowing people to gain a deeper understanding of the rich diversity of Lao PDR.
